Letter from the President 2021-2022
Dear Sisters,
What an exciting, but interesting, year we had for 2020-2021. Fortunately, Hannah Buchholz, our Vice President of Programming, planned all of the activities so they could be held virtually as well as in person. Although a few sisters were able to get together in the fall for meetings, the rest were there on screen! We held Founders' Day, virtually again, with many sisters picking up our lunches and enjoying a delicious meal together, virtually. We also had a couple of visitors from out-of-town.
Our exciting news is two-fold: first, and most importantly, Beth Ann Eadie won the Outstanding Dedication by an Alumna Award from the National Fraternity; secondly, our Association was awarded the Alumna Association Excellence with Highest Honors, also from Fraternity Headquarters. Congratulations Beth Ann for her well-deserved win and all of our sisters for the commitment to keeping the Association running smoothly.
Our calendar, pecan order form and dues links were emailed and posted to our Facebook page. Alumnae dues remain $45 (includes National dues and Chapter operating expenses) and can be paid by check or Venmo. Hannah has again planned a great schedule of events and we are keeping the virtual option.
Alpha Xi Delta is running the Kindly Hearts Campaign, which is a year-long campaign focused on service and fundraising to support our communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. As much of the U.S. and the world continues to cope with, and seek to recover from, the COVID-19 pandemic, Alpha Xi Delta is galvanizing its membership around this shared experience and deploying our time, talents and treasures to serve our local communities that are in need. To support the Kindly Hearts Campaign, Alpha Xi Delta chapters and alumnae associations will create project plans within one or more of the following areas of focus: supporting students, food insecurity, and basic needs shortages. We’ll be hearing more of what Kerry and Monica have planned for us in the coming year.
Our Kindly Hearts philanthropic efforts are covered by profits from pecan sales, so thanks for selling pecans, and thank you to Nadine Leisz for coordinating! Orders are due to Nadine by October 15, and will be distributed at the Monday, November 8 meeting, just in time for holiday cooking and gifts.
Please welcome our new members to the Executive Board, Paula Tully has agreed to return to the Board as our corresponding secretary, Susette Etta has agreed to help with the treasurer position, and Chasie Kearney will be helping Hannah with Program.
I look forward to our upcoming year. Please contact me or Hannah if you have any ideas for programs.
More and more of our communication is taking place via our Facebook group (Alpha Xi Delta NOVA Alumnae) and our Google group (alphaxideltanvaa). If you are active online, please make sure you are signed up for one or both of these services. And though the internet is great, it will never replace personal interactions, so please mark your calendar now with our meeting dates for the year. We are also open to adding more social events, so if you want to plan a brunch, movie night, happy hour or other event, please go ahead and do so and let us know how we can help promote it and attend.
We are a multi-generational group and are professional women. We have become experts in balancing professional lives with family responsibilities. We hope you will share your professional expertise in support of our alumnae association.
Membership forms can be filled out/returned at by mail or at the first meeting and we will accept dues payment in cash, by check or credit card, and online.
Fraternally yours in Alpha Xi Delta,
Janet R. H. Fishman
Northern Virginia Alumnae Association
President
